Limburg Golf & Country Club

Houthalen

Description

Limburg Golf & Country Club was founded in 1966 by a group of golf aficionados, all based in Limburg, who were members of the golf club at Sart-Tilman. The municipal council of Houthalen made available a 65-hectare piece of land, which is partly situated in the Tenhaagdoornheide nature reserve and partly in pine forest. The founding members commissioned the British golf course architect, Fred Hawtree to design the new course and in April 1968 they were able to play their first 9 holes on their own course in Limburg. In 1970 another seven holes were added and two years later the 18-hole course was finally completed.

Today the 850 members of the club can practice their skills on a 6,178-metre long course (par 72), which is moderately difficult. The sandy soil means the course is ideally suited to year-round play. The purple heather, which starts to flower around mid-August, adds to the course’s exceptional beauty. The course is in perfect condition throughout the year thanks to the excellent maintenance and the sandy soil.

A beautiful warm and sunny day in September. No wind. Blooming heather. Smell of fresh mowed fairways. Conditions that make a round Limburg Golf & Country Club one to always remember. It is maybe not as diverse and quite flat compared to courses around, though the course lay out and high quality fairways and greens makes it one of the best courses in the Benelux. Do not miss the local Ter Dolen beer in the cosy clubhouse.

Very good golfcourse near the cities of Genk and Hasselt. They used to have the best greens in the region, but the last few years the maintenance is a bit dissapointing. The best two months to play the course is in august and september because of the beautiful purple flowering heather.
